    II Kings 5:1-19

     

    1. The Father sends us into the world to turn the people of the world toward His Son.    

    (II Kings 5:1-10)

     

     

    1. God places us as sign-posts along the way.

     

    1. God establishes us as forks in the road.

     

    1. The Father gave His Son for the complete cure of the human condition. (II Kings 5:11-19)

     

     

    1. The people of the world want partial  corrections.

     

    1. God sent His Son to offer the only  complete cure.

    SALT OF THE EARTH

    II Kings 2:19-25

     

    1.     God salts a nation with His saints.  (II Kings 2:19-22)

     

     

    1. Salt stops the rot and starts the healing process.

     

     

    1. Salt adds appeal to God's invitation.

     

     

    1.   God deals with those determined to put America on a salt free  diet.    (II Kings 2:23-25)

     

     

    1. The Lord stops those trying to take out His saints.

     

     

    1. His saints are to b God's salt,healing and appealing, in spite of  the assault against them.

    1. Discipleship is God's operating plan for every generation.

    1. The progress of God's plan depends on the discipleship process.

     

     

    1. The mantle of discipleship is offered to the person desiring to follow Christ.

     

     

    1. The mantle of discipleship is a royal garment with God's name on  the label.

     

     

    1. The mantle of discipleship is passed on to the one who has prepared for  service.   (II Kings 2:1-14)

     

    1. Discipleship is a process of day by day commitment.

     

     

    1. Developing as God's disciple is a matter of persistence.

     

     

    1. God delivers the mantle to the person who through discipleship has prepared to serve.

    ELIJAH'S RUN

    I Kings 19

     

    1.     Defeat finds us when we focus on our circumstances.  (I Kings 19:1-3)

     

     

    1. Circumstances will always appear discouraging.   

     

    1. Focus on circumstances and we will run for our lives.

     

    1.    Defeat drags us down when we are physically and emotionally wiped out.   (I Kings 19:4-9)

     

     

    1. Running out instead of staying and restoring turns fear into frustration.

     

    1. Running out on our calling will cause us to run into Christ.

     

    III.   Defeat takes us out when we consider ourselves indispensable.    (I Kings 19:10-21)

     

     

    1. To believe we are indispensable is to bring complete defeat.

     

    1. To consider ourselves indispensable to His work is to be taken out of His  work.

    1.     Christ commands those who would be His servants to show  themselves.  (I Kings 18:1-19)

     

    1. Christ sends those who are with Him privately to show

                 themselves publicly.

     

    1. Those who show themselves publicly confront evil aggressively.

     

     

    1.    Christ's visible servants in this world clash with the God of this world.   (I Kings 18:20-23)

     

    1. Christ's visible servants expose the sin of trying to serve two  Masters.

     

    1. Those who serve Christ alone as Master are at war with the  world and its master.

     

     

    III.   Christ sends fire to the earth by those who stand for and before Him in the world.  (I Kings 18:38-46)

     

    1. Christ hears those who stand before Him in the world.

     

    1.   Christ shows Himself as God and Lord through those who start His fire in the world.

    4. Those walking by His Spirit are ordinary people willing to be His agents. II.     Those who are God's agents  are spiritually sustained and strengthened by time  of concealment .  (I Kings 17:2-24)
    5. Christ sustains those who spend time in concealment  with Him"
    6. Times of concealment are designed to strengthen our trust in Him.          C.  Concealment times are also given to develop the faith close to us.

    1. To put our affection on this present world is to miss Jesus' promise of Resurrection.

     

     

    1.    Jesus, the Risen Lord, calls us to leave this passing life and enter resurrection  living.    (John 20:16-18)

     

     

    1. Jesus gently calls us from this present world.

     

     

    1. Jesus invites us to enter resurrection living.

    1. The world hates all who follow Jesus because it first hated Him.

     

     

     

    1. The world persecuted those believing in the Son because it  doesn't know the One sending Him.

     

     

    1.    The world has no excuse for its sin against Christ.   (John 15:22-27)

     

     

    1. Those of the world who have hated the Son also hated the  Father.

     

     

     

    1. Those of the world who heard the words and saw the works of the  Son only to hate Him had no excuse for their sin.
