  4. Jesus spent time teaching His apostles and others over a period of  forty days after His resurrection.
  5.     (Where is HE now?)   Jesus' ascension was the inauguration of His eternal reign and heavenly ministry.    (Acts 1:9-11)
  6. He ascended for His Coronation as King forever.
  7. His ascension was the beginning of His heavenly ministry.
  8. His second coming will establish His Kingdom on earth (and every- where else) as it is in heaven.

            A.  The bread is His Body given for us and to us.

            B.  The cup is His blood poured out for us.

     

    II.     The table of the Lord reassures us of HIS invitation and promise to sit  down with HIM at HIS table in the Kingdom of God. (Mark 14:25 and Revelation 19:7-9)

             A.  At His table in this world He is present with us.

             B.  At His table in the Kingdom of God we will be present with Him.

           A.  Before following Him consider the COST.

           B.  Christ's disciples have no permanent residence.

    II.    Following Jesus takes precedence over all family considerations.

            (Luke 9:59-60)

           A.  Christ knows our present situation when He calls us.

           B.  His call to follow Him takes priority over all family obligations and traditions.   

    III.   Following Jesus is disregarding all earthly distractions to focus totally on Him.   (Luke 9:61-62)

           A.  Past connections can be distractions to following Him.

           B.  Distractions if not abandoned can divert a disciple from Christ's way.

    I.    Who can accuse us before God, if HE is on our side.  (Romans 8:31-34)

           A.  Who can accuse us, we are God's elect, declared righteous by HIM.

           B.  Who can condemn us, Christ died for us.

    II.    Who can separate us from God's love if we are in HIS Son.

            (Romans 8:35-39)

            A.  The trials and tribulations of this world can't separate us from the  love of Christ.

             B.  The conditions and powers of the creation can't separate us from the  love of God in Christ Jesus.

    I.    The Holy Spirit puts the broken pieces of our lives in the Father's hand  when we pray.   (Romans 8:26-27)

     

           A.  The Holy Spirit who knows our hearts helps us when we pray.

       

       B.  God The Father who knows the desires of our hearts responds to the intercession of the Holy Spirit.

     

    II.     The Father is taking all that touches our lives and is weaving them together  for our good and His glory.   (Romans 8:28-30)

     

            A.  God is working all that is involved in our lives for our good.

         

       B.  All He is working together for our good is accomplishing His purpose.

    I.     Christ's future evaporates the gloom of present sufferings.

      A.  Christ's future puts a golden edge on suffering.

      B.  Present suffering is not comparable to future glory.

    II.     Christ's future gives meaning to the present creation.  (Romans 8:19-22)

      A.  Creation anxiously awaits our appearing.

      B.  Creation will reach completion at our appearing.

    III,    Christ's future enables us to endure the suffering that hammers at life.   (Romans 8:23-25)

       A.  Our view of the future moves us to groan longingly in the present.

       B.  Our hope in God's tomorrow enables us to endure suffering while  living today.  (Hebrews 11:1)

    1.     Spirit directed living reveals us as sons and daughters of God.

    1. To live according to the flesh is death.
    2. To put to death the practices of the body is to live.
    3. To be led by the Spirit of God reveals us as sons and daughters of God.

     

    1.     Spirit directed praying to God as "Father" assures us that we are sons and daughters of God.   (Romans 8:15-17)  (CF.  II Corinthians 6:18)
    2. The Spirit we have received impresses us with our privilege position, that of being the sons and daughters of God.
    3. Calling God "Father" is the privilege for only those who are His children.
    4. Those who are His children are His heirs.

    1.   If you are in Christ Jesus you are by His Spirit able to think His thoughts. (Romans 8:5-8)
    2. Those in Christ Jesus have His mind.
    3. Those in Christ Jesus have His mind to think His thoughts by His Spirit.

     

    III.   If you are in Christ Jesus His Spirit is living in you to make you like Him.    (Romans 8:9-11)

    1. If you are in Christ His Spirit is living in you.
    2. If you are in Christ His Spirit is working to make you like Him.

    2. Our body of flesh is selling us as slaves to sin.
    3. Our body controlled by sin is doing not what we desire but what we  despise.
    4.    We are in a war with an enemy we cannot defeat.  (Romans 7:21-25)
    5. We are battling evil and we cannot defeat it.
    6. We are in a war we cannot win.

    BUT . . ."THANKS BE TO GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD!     .. . WE WILL WIN!

    II.     The Commands pronounce a sentence of death on those deceived by sin.     (Romans 7:10-12)

             A.  The Commandments are death to those who by sins deception  resist God.

             B.  The Commands of God are life to those depending on Him.
