I.     God's law is death to those rejecting the Law Giver.  (Romans 7:1-3)

        A.  God's law is a system of domination and death to those rejecting the Giver.

        B.  God's law as a system is dead to those loving the Giver.

 

II.     God's law is the way of life for those who are one with the Law Giver.  (Romans 7:4-6)

         A.  Those who become One with the Fullfiller of the law are living His Life.

         B.  Those living the life of the Son are producing eternal fruit for the Father.

    I.     God has appointed those men HE desires to be elders among us.   (I Timothy 3:1, Acts 20:28)

            A.  God prepares and appoints those who are to be elders (shepherds)  among us.

            B.  Those who are appointed by God as elders are recognized by the church family.

    II.     Those God has appointed are recognized by the Biblical profile.  (I Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, I Peter 5:1-4)

             A.  Elders appointed by God display a likeness to their Lord.

             B.  The maturity required of an elder is evident in his family, in the  flock of God (church) and in his community.

    III.     Those God appoints as elder He assigns to shepherd His flock.  (I. Timothy 3:1-7, Acts 20:28)

              A.  God's shepherd is to lead the flock.

              B.  God's shepherd is to feed the flock.

              C.  God's shepherd is to protect the flock.

    I.     We will forever serve one master, but we will never serve two.

           A.  We are enslaved to the master we choose to obey.

          B.  We are freed from slavery to sin when we obey the Gospel.

     

    II.   The master we serve is revealed by the fruit we bare.

             (Romans 6:19-23)

          A.  When sin was master we bore poison fruit.

          B.  Now, enslaved to God, we are baring righteous fruit that is producing holiness.

    I.     Our death with Christ frees us to live to God the Father in His Son.  (Romans 6:8-11)

            A.  Because we have died with Christ we will forever live with Him.

            B.  Be continually taking into account the "you are dead to sin" and live to God our Father in Christ Jesus His Son.

    II.     We are living to God when we present ourselves alive from the dead  and totally His.    (Romans 6:12-14)

            A.  We present our body to the Master we choose to serve.

            B.  We live to God when we present ourselves to Him as alive from the  dead and the members of our body as His weapons of righteousness.

    II.     Our crucifixion with Him frees us from slavery to sin.   (Romans 6:5-7)

            A.  Union with Christ Jesus in His crucifixion results in our being with Him in His resurrection.

             B.  We are able to live resurrection life because crucifixion with Him has freed us from the domination of sin.

    III.     Our death with Him frees us to live to God in Him.   (Romans 6:8-11)

             A.  Because we have died and been raised with Him we will forever live with Him.

             B.  Because we have died to sin we are able to live to please and serve God.

    II.     The New Year's resolution of Jesus' true disciples is determined by His Great Command and Commission.  (Matthew 28:18-20)

     

             A.  Jesus, the Risen Lord, has been given ALL authority in ALL  places!

     

             B.  Jesus' Commission of and Command to His true disciples, in light of His position, determines their New Year's resolution.

            A.  His Bethlehem birth was planned before time began.

            B.  Those welcoming His Bethlehem birth declare the Savior who is Christ the Lord to all the earth.

    I.     On the The Night Before Christmas the World was enslaved like children in chains.       (Galatians 4:1-3)

            A.  Those God created to be His heirs have to grow up to inherit.

            B.  Sin locked those God created to be His heirs in childhood and chains.

    II.     On the Day Christmas came God sent His Son to change the world's  children in chains into His heirs.    (Galatians 4:4-7)

            A.  On Christmas Day God sent His Son as One of us to die on His Tree to  free us.

             B.  On Christmas Jesus not only moved us from sin's slavery, He moved  us into His Father's house.

    III.                Christians Should Embrace True/Heavenly Wisdom.  3:17−18

     

    1. True wisdom comes from the right source. (v. 17a)
    2. True wisdom has beneficial characteristics. (v. 17b)
    3. True wisdom produces a peace-loving product. (v. 18)
